Kick Off Older Americans Month at Free Lunch and Learn Hosted by CVMC Health First Center

HICKORY, NC – April 22, 2016 – Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) announces it will host a free lunch and learn for seniors on May 4th from 11am – 1pm at the Health First Center in Hickory. Guest speakers include: Lynn Winkler, Registered Dietician with PACE@Home Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly; April Berg, CVMC Fitness Plus Member Relations Specialist and SilverSneakers Senior Advisor; Megan Lawton, Regional Manager of the Alzheimer’s Association for the Foothills Region; and Jill Hamrick CVMC Director of Volunteer Services.Participants will enjoy lunch and fun brain games while learning about senior-related topics including nutrition, exercise and how to maintain independence while contributing to the community. The event will be topped of with a sweet treat for dessert provided by PACE. The CVMC Health First Center is located at 1501 Tate Blvd. SE, next to Catawba Valley Imaging Center. Healthways SilverSneakers® Fitness Program for Aging Adults – SilverSneakers provides a full access fitness membership to individuals who qualify through their Medicare Advantage Plan or Supplement. SilverSneakers is a program designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. CVMC Volunteering – consider joining the hundreds of CVMC volunteers who share their time and talents with staff and patients serving in a host of special roles including answering questions and providing directions at information desks; volunteering in the Pet Therapy program or playing music for patients and visitors.
