Older Americans Month 2016: "Blaze a Trail"

May is Older Americans Month. “Older adults are a growing and increasingly vital part of our community,” said Carol Robinson, CVMC Lifeline Coordinator. “Older Americans Month is a great opportunity to celebrate our parents, grandparents and all of those special older individuals who have impacted our own lives.” This year’s theme, “Blaze a Trail,” emphasizes the ways older adults are reinventing themselves through new work and new passions, engaging their communities, and blazing a trail of positive impact on the lives of people of all ages.
On May 4th, Catawba Valley Medical Center (CVMC) will host a lunch-and-learn for seniors from 11am – 1pm at the Health First Center located on 1501 Tate Blvd. SE next to the Catawba Valley Imaging Center. Enjoy a free lunch while you test your knowledge with fun brain games and discuss topics such as nutrition, exercise and how you can continue to stay active in our community. Guest speakers include: Lynn Winkler, a registered Dietician with PACE; April Berg, CVMC’s Fitness Plus Member Relations Specialist and SilverSneakers® Senior Advisor; Megan Lawton, Regional Manager of the Alzheimer’s Association for the Foothills Region; and Jill Hamrick, CVMC’s Director of Volunteer Services. Topped of with a sweet treat for dessert provided by PACE. This event is limited to 20 people so pre-registration is required, call 828.485.2696 to reserve your spot.

SilverSneakers is a program designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance. CVMC VolunteeringConsider joining the hundreds of CVMC volunteers who share their time and talents with staff and patients serving in a host of special roles including answering questions and providing directions at information desks; volunteering in the Pet Therapy program or playing music for patients and visitors.
